San Miguel de allende is known world-wide as being an artists colony. The towns art schools, both Institudo Nacional de Bellas Artes and Insituto Allende, are among the countries best. Both founded in the mid-1900's, students from all over the world can study the visual and fine arts, while achieving bachelor and fine art degrees.
